We can now save teeth that, due to an infection, would have been lost. Root canal therapy (endodontics) removes infected nerves and seals the roots so the infection will not return. These teeth can then be restored to their original condition and remain pain free. We are often asked why a tooth or its roots should be saved. Some people pay thousands of dollars on implants to replace these roots as anchors for dental work. Since we will use our teeth many times daily for the rest of our lives, it's easy to see why it is important to save our existing teeth. When we are in our golden years, the last thing we'll want to worry about is not having our teeth. Another reason to save teeth is that they are meant to work together, much like the gears in a clock. If a gear is broken, it causes undue pressure on other parts which in turn causes cracking, chipping, breakage, and drifting of the remaining gears. This same effect happens to your teeth. |
